Marketing libraries with new technologies: what you need to know, and what to do next

A lot of new technologies represent great opportunities for marketing libraries, so how do you get the most from the tools available? We know a lot about social media but there are a lot of other great platforms out there. A lot of them are free, easy to use, and can be harnessed without too much time and effort.

The presentation below outlines what you need to know about each one, and actions to take to get started. There's some good examples in there too. Topics covered include marketing with video, QR Codes, Geolocational apps (FourSquare in particular), live-chat reference, library apps, online publishing - and some basic marketing principles which underpin all of that.

(Works best on full-screen, and feel free to embed this on your own website, with a link back to this one.)

This is the first proper post from this new Library Marketing Toolkit website (see also this introductory blog which provides an overview of the site). It both accompanies the book (more details are The Book page of this site, and there's a free chapter available for download (PDF) so you know what to expect if you order it for your library) and works as an independent resource to help you market your library. If you have any suggestions for what you'd like to see on here, or wish to submit a case study, then leave me a comment or get in touch!

You can subscribe to the blog here, and get updates via Twitter here.

There's a lot of really great stuff coming up - starting with a fabulous case study from the Bodleian library at Oxford, up next...
